Heroin is increasingly becoming a problem in communities throughout Colorado. Recent data shows increased rates of heroin seizures and arrests, heroin overdoses, administration of naloxone, and treatment for heroin use. This growing trend is a public safety issue, which not only affects families, friends and individual users, but the general public as well.

Description
Numerous data sources indicate that Colorado is experiencing an increasing problem with heroin. This is supported by data indicating increased rates of heroin seizures and arrests, heroin overdoses, administration of naloxone, new cases of hepatitis C, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), heroin exposure and treatment for opioid use disorders.

Description
In Colorado, 76% of inmates have a moderate to severe need for substance abuse treatment. One of the programs funded by the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) to help link this high volume of offenders with substance abuse treatment is the Colorado Treatment Accountability for Safer Communities (Colorado TASC) program, administered by a contractual relationship with Peer Assistance Services, Inc. (PAS).
